Tools for Linux

The tools showed on this page work (at last) with GNU/Linux and are either Freeware or Open Source

GUI and editors

GUI are pieces of software enabling you to start renders without even having to know POV-Ray's command line options. The editors let you code your scenes with text coloration of the code.

Ground generators

The ground generators let you create objects (mainly height fields but also meshes) having the shape of any ground (moutains, islands, canyons, etc.). The more advanced softwares let you create full landscapes and render them with POV-Ray.

Terraform : Terraform-fr website [fr], Raymond Ostertag's article (for an older version of Terraform) [fr], the official website [en]

3D converters

3D converters help you convert objects or pictures made out of other 3D packages.

Full 3D suites

Some 3D packages let you export objects and/or scenes to POV-Ray. As a rule of thumb, these packages have their own render engine and export to POV-Ray is only an option in order to create a CG.
